Scripture: Luke.5:8-11

8 When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.” 9 For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him. 10 His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed.

Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!” 11 And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.

If you don’t know your value, you will always live a sub-standard life. If you don’t know the God that you worship, you will live a miserable life. The reason why many people go to the graves poor is because of fear.

Fear is always installed in us after birth through our parents and the environment. Children aren’t born with fear but it starts when the parents start to impart the fear into the child as they start to hint the child with safety and security issues. A lot of “Beware of …” statements, such as “Beware of the darkness”. Many African people are afraid of swimming because they fear drowning in deeper waters. We are born great but we reduce ourselves and our potential through fear. Unfortunately, this fear comes from our environment.

Africans resolve problems through physical fighting whilst the greater majority of the white community prefer to use their mind, hence you find more and better boxers in the black community and best swimmers in the white community.

One of the effects of fear is the “undeserving” mentality. They feel, “This is not mine, it’s too good and is for others”. Many such people think anything better is for others not themselves. There is the tendency to undermine oneself and self-belittling which leads many to losing what belongs to them. You are not a less product and neither are you of sub-standard value; you are extra-ordinary and a better product in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

Claim your position in this world by having the positive and optimistic mentality over life. In Africa we have been programmed to believe that every good product comes from over-seas places like China, Western block and other European countries. We are better than we perceive ourselves.

We give all glory to God. Mbiri kunaJesu.
